Ethnic Minorities and Diaspora Programme CSM’s pioneering campaign launched at the RSA (Royal Society for Arts, Commerce and Manufacturers) in 2001 to engage British Asians in the corporate responsibility and sustainability movement. This was part of an endeavour to promote leadership for greater social, ethical and environmentally responsible business practice. CSM believes that these communities have much to contribute and cannot remain marginalised from the mainstream debate. There is also a strong developmental angle to the BALCC initiative. We believe that mobilising these communities will create positive pressure for change - both at home and abroad - through their existing cultural links to developing countries. Southern Business Challenge In 2002, as its contribution to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, CSM initiated a new network – the Southern Business Challenge – to bring the voices of progressive developing country businesses to the conference. Comprising small, medium and large eco-pioneers, the companies united in the SBC were all triple-bottom-line aspirants determined to show that CSR and sustainability were not a ‘western imposition’ but a shared business ideal.

West Bengal Forum on Business Partnerships for Sustainable Development In 2002, as part of our input to the World Business Summit on Sustainable Development, CSM initiated a regional partnership in West Bengal called the Business Partnership for Sustainable Development. Over the course of the next few years, the West Bengal Forum focussed on two issues that the membership determined to be of most concern for the state: ICT and SMEs. CSM facilitated a number of events and publications – including elucidating key national legislation such as the small and medium enterprises development bill. This led to increased in-house understanding and capacity on these vital issues.
