| Rio+20 Future We Want campaign launched by UN Secretary-General |
CSM's chief executive, Malini Mehra, is an advisor to a new global campaign, The Future We Want, launching a global conversation on issues of sustainability and the future we want. The campaign will be launched by the UN Secretary-General in New York on 22 November 2011.
The campaign will feed into the 'Rio+20' initiative when - 20 years after UNCED, the Earth Summit in 1992 - the United Nations will bring the world together in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to discuss and decide how to accelerate action for a healthier, more equitable and more prosperous world for all.
“Rio+20” -- the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development -- is an opportunity to look ahead to the world we want in 20 years and to come up with better ways of doing things. Such as:
- How can we help people move out of poverty and get good jobs, while protecting the environment?
- How can we provide access to clean energy for everyone?
- How can we make sure that everyone can get the water, food and nutrition they need?
- How can we shape our cities so that everyone can enjoy a decent quality of life?
- How can we make sure that our oceans and marine life are healthy?
- How can we make sure that our communities are resilient in the face of natural disasters?

CSM takes part in Project Green Light
|
Malini Mehra is adviser to Project Green Light; a global communications project focused on developing a new approach to the way we communicate about climate change and sustainability.
Project Green Light will address how to reach out to consumers, suppliers, employees and politicians through a new way of communicating about sustainability. The members of the Project Green Light believe that solutions need to demonstrate the way forward through visual representations and not through more written reports. The project will deliver its final animation at Rio+20 in June 2012.

| Cancun Climate Talks: Mexico finds its mojo and India emerges a winner - Malini Mehra |
Summary
For those looking for lessons in Indian diplomacy, Cancun hit a high-water mark. The reason was Jairam Ramesh. The Mexicans found their mojo and India finally emerged as a climate winner.
The UN climate conference’s surprise outcome was not pre-determined. Just two weeks ago, most scribes had written off the prospects of an agreement - in keeping with a whole year of downplaying expectations. Copenhagen had handed Cancun a poisoned chalice and the bitter taste lingered.
No-one wanted a repeat of the stratospheric expectations, incoherent political process, murky last-minute deals and crushing results. Both trust and nerves had been shredded.

| Malini Mehra featured on Business Standard - Kanika Datta |
India Inc has been passive and reactive on climate change. Climate Challenge India, a climate change mobilisation effort by Bangalore-based NGO Center for Social Markets (CSM) has produced a film titled In Good Company: Corporate India and the Climate Challenge that partly tries to answer the question but also raises some red flags on the issue. The 54-minute film succinctly explores the key issues surrounding the climate change debate but mostly focuses on how businesses view the agenda and what they are doing. The “usual suspects” are to be found – ITC’s Yogi Deveshwar, Tata group’s J J Irani, Mahindra’s Anand Mahindra, Godrej group’s Jamshyd Godrej – but so are a host of smaller eco-preneurs with inspirational stories.
