India as a Global Player
![]() On 15th November 2008, the world's economic centre of gravity shifted eastwards as China and India officially became its new pivots. With much of the western world now in deep recession, these powerful mega-markets are seen as the new engines of growth that will drive the global economy out of its downturn. Whether they are capable of this remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the 21st century will be the Asian century and the emergence of China and India will profoundly impact global politics. This programme looks at the impact of India's emergence as a global player on foreign policy, sustainability, security and human rights issues. Two of the projects currently under development are: China - India Dialogue: developed in partnership with Chinadialogue.net this will be a new bilingual platform providing a bilateral forum for learning and debate on key issues such as climate change. Global India Leadership Forum: the country's first indigenous leadership forum of global Indians out to promote a progressive engagement with the rest of the world on sustainability and human rights challenges. |
