What we do

Platforms
CSM has developed a number of unique platforms on climate change:
Climate Challenge India

Climate Challenge India (CCI) is CSM’s flagship programme on climate change. Click here to download a brochure.
Launched in 2007, Climate Challenge India was recognised as one of the world’s top five climate campaigns and profiled at the United Nations’ climate conference in Bali (December 2007). Climate Challenge India now functions as a platform for climate activity in India, bringing together a range of players from different sectors on a pro-active agenda for the country.

The Climate Challenge India Platform brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to rapidly advance India's response to climate change through a variety of measures. These include research and education; advocacy and campaigns; business and enterprise; arts and culture; practical and professional action; science and technology development.

Platform members commit to:
• Educating themselves, their organisations and communities about climate change
• Determining their carbon footprint and reducing it
• Helping vulnerable communities adapt to climate change
• Promoting the development of products and processes that are carbon neutral or carbon positive
• Supporting science-based and equitable policies and measures that will reduce national and international greenhouse gas emissions
The Platform amounts to a new force for change demonstrating that India need wait for no-one to lead on climate change. Taken together each of these efforts will help reduce and manage India's vulnerability to climate change, and set her on the path to a low-carbon future with greater chance of achieving security and prosperity for her people and the world.

How do I join the Platform?
Each of us can make a difference. To join the Platform all you have to do is sign the Climate Challenge India Pledge (see over), and let us know that you or your organisation want to be a part of this movement.
We have committed under the Clinton Global Initiative to get more than 10 million Indians to sign the Pledge in 2009. Please join us in this pledge drive and help us reach every corner of the country.
We are already working with every other major initiative globally and in India to promote urgent action on climate change. From the UN's Caring for the Climate initiative to the Global Campaign on Climate Action, we are there.
Signing the Pledge is just the beginning. We will support and encourage CCI Platform members to take action and make a real difference in their communities.

What do I get in return?
All members of the Climate Challenge India Platform get access to a range of cutting-edge information and other resources geared towards India and climate solutions. They also get exposure for their activities and the opportunity to network with a growing community of climate leaders across the country.
The entry point for the CCI Platform is the Climate Challenge India Portal – a unique resource, the CCI Portal is intended as the gateway for news, views and action on climate change in India. The Portal offers a number of features, including the following:

• Print & Audio-Visual Resources – Mine of information on climate change and India

COP 15 – UNFCCC Conference (Dec 2009)
2009 is the year of action on climate change. In December, 190 governments will converge in Copenhagen to agree a new way forward on climate change under the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). CSM has prioritised COP15 as a focal point for our activities in 2009.

Our objective is:
To put India in the forefront of leadership on climate change, and secure a high-ambition, successful outcome to global climate negotiations in Copenhagen in December 2009.

Click here for CSM’s Malini Mehra on the official COP15 website

CSM is engaged in local and global efforts to raise awareness of COP15, engage the public and drive a strong, just and effective outcome on climate change.

CSM has launched India Climate Watch to bring a spotlight on India’s role in the climate negotiations.

As a member of the Climate Action Network - South Asia (CANSA), CSM seeks to bring a new sense of urgency and leadership from India.
CSM is also engaged in the Global Campaign on Climate Action (GCCA) to bring a unified civil society message on the urgency of climate action and justice for all.

Indian Elections 2009
India will be going to the Polls in April/ May 2009. CSM is determined to place climate change issues on the political agenda – not as an abstract concept but as a bread-and-butter issue that people can relate to.

CSM’s interventions will be strictly non-political and non-partisan. Our efforts will be geared around public engagement, interaction with parliamentarians and the media.

In June 2009,CSM will be holding a briefing on climate change for the new intake of parliamentarians in the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of the Indian Parliament.
