MALINI MEHRA FRSA Malini Mehra is the founder & CEO of the Centre for Social Markets (CSM), a non-profit that has pioneered work on sustainability and corporate responsibility in India and the Diaspora since 2000. CSM’s award-winning ‘Climate Challenge India’ campaign is the first of its kind in India and promotes a strong leadership agenda for the country – particularly working in close partnership with corporate leaders. In 2009 she produced the film ‘In Good Company’ profiling corporate leadership on climate change in India launched at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen. At the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen, Malini worked with the BBC’s Nik Gowing to help facilitate the Business Day which attracted several hundred global business leaders. Malini has worked on sustainability, development, gender and human rights issues for two decades and is a frequent media commentator. Her recognitions include World Economic Forum ‘Young Global Leader’, Asia Society ‘Asia 21 Young Leader’ and CNN ‘Principal Voice’. She is a member of the Royal Society for Art, Commerce and Manufacture, the British-American Project and the Remarque Fellowship. Prior to founding CSM in 2000, Malini worked on international trade, environment and human rights for NGOs including Oxfam and Friends of the Earth. From 2005-2006, she served at the UK government, where she led on international sustainable development partnerships and initiated the UK Government’s pioneering Sustainable Development Dialogues (SDDs) with China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico. From 2004-5, she served as Advisor to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on his High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on UN-Civil Society Relations. She also contributed to UN publications such as the Human Development Reports on Democracy (2002) and Human Rights (2000) respectively. Malini has served on numerous boards including as former chair of Rugmark UK and on the European bank Fortis’ CSR Panel. She currently serves on the sustainability and corporate responsibility advisory boards respectively of Unilever, Kimberly Clark and BHP Billiton. She is a director of the world’s first bi-lingual website on China - Chinadialogue.net - and advisor to the International Resource Centre on Business and Human Rights. Malini has degrees from the Institute of Development Studies (Univ. of Sussex) and Smith College (USA) with a specialism in gender studies. An Indian citizen, she is married with three children, speaks six global languages, and presently divides her time between London and India. She is strongly involved in her local community and serves as a Parent Governor.
