SBC gearing up for Official Launch at WSSD

SBC gearing up for Official Launch at WSSD The Southern Business Challenge and its members are gearing up for the official launch of the network at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in late August 2002.

TIME 11:00am - 1:00pm

A selection of SBC member companies from around the world will join invited guests and media to launch a major new force on the international sustainable development scene. A panel comprising member companies, sponsors and officials will speak on just why this unique initiative is set to make waves. The SBC Declaration to the WSSD, Discussion Papers and SBC member company profiles will be circulated at the event.

SBC outputs for the World Summit on Sustainable Development

1. The SBC will be officially launched at the WSSD.
2. An SBC Declaration to the WSSD outlining the key messages of the Southern Business Challenge.
3. An ongoing series of SBC Discussion Papers based upon the expertise of member companies will start at the WSSD with papers focussing on "Sustainable Energy: the contribution of southern business" and "Sustainable Tourism: the contribution of southern business."
4. A video profiling representatives of the SBC member companies and explaining the context and mission of the SBC will be shown at the SBC Launch and will be widely available after that.
Report available on SBC's first regional workshop in Kolkata, India

The first of the SBC's series of regional meetings was held in Kolkata, India, on Sunday 28 April 2002. SBC companies from India and Nepal joined experts in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development in the Park Hotel to introduce their work and discuss how the SBC should develop in the lead up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development and beyond.
